Frequently Asked Questions

Speakers

What is the format of the presentations?

Each speaker will have a 20-minute slot - approximately 15 minutes to present and 5 minutes for Q&A. We will make online arrangements for speakers who cannot present in-person. Some presentations will instead be delivered as poster presentations instead (more details here).

Some presentations will instead be delivered as poster presentations. The poster session will be held on the evening of the 30th of June 2021. Posters will be A0 in size.

Why do I need to submit a research abstract in this particular format?

Our submissions form asks for photos, a personal bio, and a 'presentation summary' (i.e. an abstract). We ask that this 350-word abstract include:

  • A clear statement of the topic
  • Your approach (methods)
  • Value and use to the industry
  • Outline of your topic (research)
  • Summary of key points
We ask that you submit your abstracts in this particular format along with additional materials so that we can promote your talk.

Do speakers need to buy tickets?

Speakers based in WA will need to purchase tickets. Interstate or international speakers presenting in-person or online will have their fees waivered since they will have to make other arrangements, e.g. travel.

There are early bird prices as well as a discount for students. We will notify speakers of their options and assist them however we can.

Program

Is this conference purely about research or beekeeping in general?

This is actually a joint conference organised by BICWA and the CRC for Honey Bee Products. You can think of them as two conferences. BICWA's conference is geared towards beekeepers and industry, whereas the CRC's conference emphasises researchers and science. By hosting a joint event, attendees get the best of both worlds.

General

Will the conference be live-streamed?

Partly, yes. The research presentations at the conference will be open to international viewing and interaction. They will also be recorded. See online tickets sales for more information.

What else is going on besides presentations?

We have a whole host of events planned! There are workshops scheduled on the 28th and 29th, breakfasts for the two conference days, and a fantastic dinner planned for the 1st of July. After the conference, there will also be opportunities to go on several tours.

More information about the program is available here. Stay up-to-date with announcements by following our Facebook page.

Are there any accomodation deals available for conference guests?

We have compiled a range of accomodation options here. Click on the links provided to access exclusive discounted rates.

100% refund until 18th March, less merchant fee, thereafter no refund, unless unforeseen circumstances are accepted by the Conference Committee and COVID restrictions or COVID restrictions prevent ticket holder from attending.

In the case of the 2sqm rule, we can proceed with limited attendee number.
